The standard we build to

What we have done

• Semantic HTML throughout, so headings, lists, landmarks and buttons are what they say they are and screen readers can navigate the structure.
• Every interactive element reachable and operable by keyboard alone, in an order that follows the visible layout.
• A visible focus indicator on every focusable element, never removed and never hidden behind another element.
• Text and interface colours checked against WCAG AA contrast ratios, at least 4.5 to 1 for body text and 3 to 1 for large text and interface components.
• Animation held under 400 milliseconds and disabled entirely for anyone whose system asks for reduced motion.
• Descriptive alt text on every content image, written to say what the image contributes rather than repeating the caption. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• Every form field has a visible label tied to its input, errors are announced in text rather than by colour alone, and no field relies on a placeholder as its only label.
• A skip link to the main content, correct page language, and titles that identify each page on its own.
• Layouts that reflow to 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling, and that survive text being resized to 200 per cent.
